Privacy

What happens to the photos I send?
Each photo has two versions. The original with EXIF metadata (GPS, date, device model) stays in a private storage bucket, accessible only to moderators for anti-fraud verification. The public version is EXIF-stripped, downscaled to max 1920px on the long edge, converted to WebP. The public version is what everyone sees; the original is mod/admin only.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, anytime — email privacy@smecomap.com with a request. The pins you reported aren't deleted (they are a documented trace), but they get anonymized — created_by becomes null, the name is removed. EXIF originals are also deleted 90 days after 'cleaned' status by default.
Do you use cookies for tracking?
Smećomap uses only essential cookies (locale preference, auth session). GA4 analytics is enabled solely with your explicit consent — a banner appears on first visit and you can decline without losing functionality.

Functionality

How fast is my report processed?
The admin queue is FIFO sorted (oldest first). Moderation usually takes 12–24h. After moderation, the pin becomes public and is forwarded to the utility as a PDF email. After that it depends on the utility — some respond within a week, some never.
What happens if 30 days pass with no action?
The pin automatically moves to 'ignored' (a cron job runs daily at 03:00 UTC). The municipality is added to the public 'wall of shame'. The reporter gets an email notification, and the pin keeps showing publicly — that's the whole point: institutions can't hide it if they don't respond.
Can I report a pin without an account?
Almost. Email is asked only at the very end as a magic link — no passwords. The pin is created the moment you tap 'Submit', and email verification is asked only to prevent spam. No password registration, no profile.
What if the photo lacks GPS coordinates?
The app tries to pick up GPS in the background as soon as you open the submission flow. If it fails within 15 seconds (e.g. battery saver mode, indoor location), you can manually place the pin on the map. The minimum precision is shown in the UI — green if within ±50m, yellow 50–200m, red over 200m.

Status

What are the possible pin phases?
Reported → forwarded → in progress → cleaned. Plus two off-axis statuses: rejected (admin denied for some reason — you see the reason) and ignored (auto-status after 30 days). Every transition has a timestamp and an actor in the public log.
Why is the after-photo required?
Without an after-photo, the 'cleaned' status could be a false claim. The admin who moves the status to 'cleaned' must first upload an after-photo of the same location — comparable to the before. This is enforced at the DB level (the Server Action returns an error if no after-photo).

Participation

How do I become a volunteer moderator?
We currently pick moderators manually via email. Send an email to hello@smecomap.com with where you live, how many hours per week you can give, and any prior work with civic tooling. A formal application flow is coming in Phase 7+.
Is there an API for integration?
Phase 9. Currently data is read through a public REST endpoint with the anon key (anyone can GET public pins). Phase 9+ introduces a formal API with rate limits and CORS policy.
