How it works

Five steps. We track each.

From the moment you snap the location to the moment you have public proof of cleanup — here's what really happens, and how long it takes.

  1. 01

    Snap

    ~ 10 seconds

You open Smećomap → tap 'Report pin' → your phone opens the native camera. You photograph the location (max 5 photos) — GPS is picked up automatically in the background. Photo + GPS is the minimum needed.

    • ·No account, no registration.
    • ·Email is asked only at the very end, as a magic link.
    • ·Dual EXIF flow: the public version is stripped, the original stays only for moderators.
  2. 02

    Classify

    ~ 10 seconds

Waste type (10 categories — from municipal to medical), size (small / medium / large / huge), description if you want. Everything else (municipality, coordinates, date) is automatic.

    • ·If GPS signal is missing: drag the pin on the map manually.
  3. 03

    Admin verifies

    ~ 24h

A volunteer moderator reviews the photos, checks if it's actually waste (a real dumpsite versus a sidewalk trash can). If everything checks out, the pin becomes public and moves to 'forwarded' status alongside a PDF report for the relevant public utility.

    • ·Rejection reasons: false report, duplicate, not waste, personal data in photo, other.
    • ·Bulk actions are scope-restricted (same municipality + same type ≤ 50 pins).
  4. 04

    We forward to the utility

    ~ 5 minutes

Admin generates a PDF report with all details — coordinates, classification, photos — and emails the public utility. A mailto link with pre-filled subject and body; the admin attaches the PDF manually.

    • ·We don't auto-send email — every utility has its own spam-filter whitelist process.
    • ·Each report gets a unique number the utility can reference.
  5. 05

    Track the status

    open-ended

The pin moves publicly: forwarded → in progress (if the utility responds) → cleaned (when an after-photo proves it). The reporter gets an email on every status change. If 30 days pass with no action — the pin auto-moves to 'ignored' and the municipality lands on the 'wall of shame'.

    • ·An after-photo is required before the 'cleaned' transition.
    • ·A cron job runs the auto-ignored task at 03:00 UTC daily.

Got a location near you?

30 seconds is all it takes. Email won't ask you anything before you see the pin go through.
